Roadwater Fete 2007

It was a traditional English Fete in a beautiful setting – without rain.  At Roadwater Fete a record profit of £4401.08p was raised to help fund the upkeep of the hall and recreation ground, also to allow ongoing refurbishment and improvements to continue.  The afternoon was overcast and warm, ideal for all participants – including the dogs.  Throughout the afternoon the Watchet Royal British Legion Band played whilst the many stalls and games gave pleasure to all which included those attending the Dog Show.  Attractions this year were:  The Village Blacksmith, Motorbike and sidecar rides, Stocks, Aromatherapy Massage, Silent Auction, the Williton Fire Engine to name but a few!  Steve Eggar had devised an unusual Duck Race, aided by the Fireman, as the river was too fast for the plastic ducks to survive!   The Tea Rooms did a roaring trade as usual and the Produce Show had an unprecedented number of entries which resulted in a superb auction result under the ‘hammer’ of Dennis Takle.    The evening barbeque had to be postponed until the 27th August due to the bad weather.

A very big thank you to all who helped, visited, exhibited and spent their money so generously.

Date for your 2007 diary: next year’s Fete is on Saturday 26th July.

‘After Fete’ meeting at the Valiant Soldier on Monday 6th August at 8 pm for Fete helpers.  If you are unable to attend and have any comments  please pass on to Mary Coles, Debbie Dennis, Nigel Grabham, or Steve Eggar.
